Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in New Bern. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Pamlico area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many rental management companies supply Pamlico area area visitor guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Pamlico area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Selecting the best rental home in the Pamlico area area:
- Select your vacation dates and budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Neuse River Retreat has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Some things to know before you go:
- Get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- At Check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
