Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Book your vacation home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Pamlico area area visitor guide magazines which include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Pamlico area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Waterfront Retreat has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your group.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. text the host immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect your property!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great feedback to propel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
