Our top Rental home booking tips and tricks:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- Summer time is high season in New Bern. Booking in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Pamlico area area visitor guides which often include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Pamlico area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and choosing your prefectrental:
- Select dates and budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Charming, warm & tranquil historic downtown New Bern home has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Pamlico area vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or might be applied to your agreement.
Additional considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Upon check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect your property!
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
