Tricks and tips to get the best New Bern vacation home experience:

How to get the best value:

  • To book the best rental within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Pamlico area attractions and restaurants.
  • In the Pamlico area area, The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Finding the best vacation home in the Pamlico area area:

  • First and foremost, have your group agree to the best dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Amazing 3 BR House \/ Downtown New Bern \/ Sleeps 8 has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you book your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If there's a specific Pamlico area beach you are enamored with, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • During arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
