Rental home booking tips and tricks:
When to visit & When to book:
- Summer time is high season in New Bern. Booking in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies supply Pamlico area area visitors guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Pamlico area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Make a plan and choose the rightvacation home:
- Start by having your group select date ranges and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Amazing 3 BR House \/ Downtown New Bern \/ Sleeps 8 has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Pamlico area vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property owner before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's a specific Pamlico area beach you are enamored with, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- If your family is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Advice for a great stay:
- Add the host's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Upon arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a great stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
