Vacation rental tips and tricks:
When to go & When to reserve a rental home:
- Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Pamlico area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Pamlico area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to pick the best vacation rental:
- Choose vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Tryon Palace, Neuse River, Birthplace of Pepsi has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before booking the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what is best for your vacation.
- If there's a certain Pamlico area destination you simply love, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- At Check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
