New Bern vacation rental tips and tricks:

When to visit & When to book:

  • To get the best value, consider shifting your family's Pamlico area vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Pamlico area area visitor guides which include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to pick the best vacation rental:

  • To start, have your family select date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Spotless, comfortable and safe. Great location with excellent kitchen + backyard has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the host before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If there's a certain Pamlico area beach you long to visit, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • If your group is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few issues.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic time? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
