Our top New Bern vacation rental tips:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • June, July, and August are high season in New Bern. To get the best value, change your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • In the Pamlico area area, The sooner you can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local Pamlico area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to pick the best vacation home in the Pamlico area area:

  • Select your vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. The Cozy Bear Bungalow has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
  • Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
  • To make certain that damages are not linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. text the rental manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
