New Bern vacation rental tips and tricks:

When to book & When to go:

  • Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Pamlico area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Pamlico area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for nearby shops and restaurants.

How to choose and book the rightvacation home:

  • Begin by selecting the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Little Queen on Craven has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Pamlico area vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine which bed configuration is best for your group.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your stay, note any problem areas during check in. text the property manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
