Tips to get the best New Bern rental experience:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Book your rental home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Pamlico area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local Pamlico area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Selecting the perfect rental:

  • To start, have your group decide on dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Historic Downtown New Bern Condo -2 Bedrooms has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible online. If they are not listed, email the host before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your agreement.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental

More considerations for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of issues.
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
  • Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
