Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Pamlico area vacation rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • To find the most suitable rental home within your budget, we recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Pamlico area restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Pamlico area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • The sooner you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Pamlico area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Selecting and booking the bestvacation home:

  • Choose dates and budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Historic Heath House steps from the Neuse River has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the host before booking the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.

During your stay:

  • Add the host's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Upon check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
