Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summertime is high season in New Bern. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Pamlico area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have money saving offers on local tours and attractions.
Make a plan and choose the perfectrental home:
- Choose dates and budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Our Getaway Two has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is right for your family.
- Is your family looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Upon check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
