Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- To find the largest rental home for your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Pamlico area attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Pamlico area area visitor guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Pamlico area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to pick the perfect rental:
- To start, have your group choose trip dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Historic Alston-Charlotte Cottage in Downtown New Bern! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Know before you go:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the property manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- At departure, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to propel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
