Finding the best New Bern vacation home experience:
When to go & When to reserve a rental home:
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Summer time is high season in the Pamlico area area. To get the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Pamlico area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local Pamlico area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking the bestrental:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Beautiful 2 bedroom condo in the resort community of Fairfield Harbour has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If not, email the property owner before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your trip.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
- At Check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic stay? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
