Tricks and tips to get the best New Bern rental experience:

Get the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • Summertime is high season in the Pamlico area area. To get the best value, consider changing your family's Pamlico area trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Pamlico area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Pamlico area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by having your group agree to vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Cozy Bungalow by the Neuse River-\"The Hive House\" has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Know before you go:

  • Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make sure that no damages are linked to your visit, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the host immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great feedback to propel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
