Our top Pamlico area rental home booking tips:

When to reserve a Pamlico area rental & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are high season in New Bern. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Pamlico area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to pick the best rental in New Bern:

  • Begin by choosing a vacation week and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Lovely 1 BR with King bed Apt 2 has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you book the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is suitable for your vacation family.
  • If there's a certain Pamlico area destination you are enamored with, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a wonderful time? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
